Welcome to South Cambridgeshire Equestrian Centre

Set in 260 acres of Cambridgeshire countryside we offer riding for everyone from the complete beginner to the more experienced rider

We are ABRS approved and an appointed Pony Club Centre with lessons, rallies, pony days and clinics running all year round

We also offer a comprehensive range of livery services to suit the needs of the horse owner

The Riding School

We teach all ages and all abilities from 5 years old and upwards. Whether you are an experienced rider or have never sat on a horse before we can offer something for everyone

The riding school is open from Tuesday to Sunday with lessons until 8p.m. on weekdays and with both floodlit indoor and outdoor schools we teach all year round

All instruction is carried out by BHS qualified instructors who are CRB checked and have first aid certification

We ask that all new riders to the centre complete a half hour assesment lesson so that we can advise the best way forward for each rider be that individual instruction or group lessons.

Group lessons are graded according to both age and ability

The Pony Club

We are an appointed Pony Club Centre which allows children who do not own their own pony the experience of caring for a pony whilst improving their riding and equine knowledge.

We run Pony Club activities throughout the year including rallies, progressive riding tests and the opportunity to gain badges

Cancellation PolicyWe ask that a minimum of 24 hours notice be given if you need to change or cancel your lesson for any reason.Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice remain payable.

How to get here

We are conveniently situated, just off the A10 between Cambridge and Royston. We are also easily accessible by rail, just a fifteen minute walk from Shepreth on the Cambridge to Kings Cross line.From Cambridge (Jnct 11)Follow signposts for Royston ( A10) when you reach FOXTON turn right before the level crossing ( Signed Barrington). You will go over a light railway crossing after which the road bends sharply to the right. There is a brick gateway on the left hand side of this bend...this is our entrance.From Cambridge ( Jnct 12)Follow signs for Wimpole Hall, when you reach Barton turn left ( signed Haslingfield). When you get to the church in Haslingfield turn right over the hill. Whe n in Barrington turn left after the church and drive out of the villiage. Our entrance id on the right hand side of the first sharp bend.By Rail - From Shepreth railway stationTurn left out of the station and walk for approx. 500 yards . After the bridge turn left into Angle Lane. Follow this road to the very end where you will come to a pedestrian level crossing. Go over the crossing and follow the footpath for about 500 yards. There will be a path to your right - follow this path until you reach the sand jumping school then turn right and follow the path onto the yard. Please be aware that the paths are unlit and can be muddy in wet weather.

Thornytons Labradors

Anyone who visits the centre will soon realise that we love our labradors!!

We are kennel club assured breeders which means that we ensure that any puppies we breed are from parents that have been properly health tested.

Our puppies are always home reared, well socialised and wormed before going to suitable loving homes.

As assured breeders we can offer lots of advice and support to new owners not just before but also after you welcome your new arrival!

Purdey Kings Clarinet of Thornytons

Hips - 6/7Eyes - ClearPurdey is the daughter of one of our boys, Wilson, who we also own. Having decided that four Labradors was more than enough we were approached to use Wilson as a stud and couldn't resist Purdey when the litter was born. She has been a very welcome addtion to the pack! Purdey is very calm in nature, but very sharp minded at the same time...she can certainly recognise the sound of the biscuit jar at ten paces! Both Purdey and Wilson are 'old fashioned' labradors with strong square features, deep and broad chests and compact frames. As with all good labradors they have thick tails which get put to good use when navigating the ponds around the farm! Purdey has also proven to be a brilliant mum to two previous litters of puppies.

Hips - 6/6Eyes - ClearMonty came to us at six months old . We had already rehomed her half brother, Chester, when we received a phonecall from her breeder saying that she too was looking for someone who could offer her a home as her current owners could no longer keep her. Monty had obviously received very little in the way of interaction with people and was literally bouncing off the walls when let into the house from the back garden where she appeared to spend all of her time. We took her home that evening to live with us. Monty soon settled into the routine of living with our three boys and positively thrived on human attention. She is now one of the most affectionate and biddable dogs you are likely to meet, she is immensely loyal and likes nothing more than to sit on your lap for a cuddle! Monty has been a brilliant mum to two litters so far which is no mean feat considering that they were 13 and 11 puppies respectively! Monty comes from working stock so is finer featured and finer framed but with a good outline. Her puppies grow up with her pretty features and eager to please temperement.
